Work by Ann Grá

***

Like fish in the water
I float with my belly up
Eyes to the skies
Thoughts all caught up
In the seaweed
Tangled with my arms
And pulling me down
In the malachite murkiness

From the muddy riverbed
I can still see the light play
And shimmer on the ripples
Where the fresh breezes blow
Free from the silken grip
Of this engrossing clay
That won’t let go

***

the green turns red
as simple as that
arrogance is washed away
to leave the even sand
comprised of bits of shells
crumbled with time –
evidence of past life
and perpetual decay
without end

***

I lift up my umbrella
it has holes in it
shaped in constellations
it leaks indeed
but even when it rains
the stars – they gleam
and whisper from the sky
it does not cover me –
but being wet’s too trivial
when I’m stunned
at any given time
by foreign suns
